What are the different types of glaucoma surgery and is it safe?
Since the damage done by glaucoma is irreversible, treatment is most effective when detected and treated early in its stages. It is possible to slow or stop the progression of glaucoma with medication, laser treatment or even surgery, and the goal of all these procedures is to decrease the eye pressure. Laser treatments may be effective in treating open-angle glaucoma and surgery may be used in people who do not respond sufficiently to other measures.
What can I expect after the surgery ?
Depending on what treatment your provider recommends it will vary from treatment to treatment. Medications such as eye drops are to be used everyday and will not impact your daily life. With laser treatment, most people can go back to their daily life a day after the treatment. With surgery, the recovery time usually takes around 2-4 weeks.
